Angela Padilla is the wife of Alex Padilla, California Secretary of State. On Tuesday [December 22, 2020], California Gov. Gavin Newsom announced that Alex Padilla had been selected to fill the Senate seat vacated by Vice President-elect Kamala Harris. He will be the first Latino to represent California in the Senate, a state where Latinos make up 40 percent of the population.

Alex Padilla’s wife, Angela Padilla, is a mental health advocate. She is the President and Founder of FundaMental Change. FundaMental Change’s mission is to increase awareness and eliminate the stigma associated with mental health conditions, to improve access to quality care for individuals living with a mental illness, and to better support their caregivers. She was raised in the San Fernando Valley by a single mother who was diagnosed with Bipolar I with schizoaffective disorder at a young age.

Angela recalls first witnessing her mother in crisis when Angela was only aged 3. Growing up as a daughter, caretaker, and advocate, Angela has experienced first hand the difference that quality care can make in the life of an individual living with a mental illness and to their loved ones. This inspired Angela to earn a bachelor’s degree in Psychology from California State University Northridge and to incorporate FundaMental Change.

She graduated from Canoga Park High School, earned an Associate’s degree from Los Angeles Pierce College and a Bachelor’s degree from California State University Northridge.
