Amir Nasr-Azadani is an Iranian professional soccer player who plays as a defender for Azadegan League club Iranjavan FC. He joined Iranjavan from Sepahan Novin on a free transfer in November 2021. Nasr-Azadani previously played for Golreyhan FC, Tractor Sazi, Oxin Alborz, Rah Ahan and Rah Ahan, according to Transfermarkt.
Nasr-Azadani started playing football for the youth teams of local powerhouse Sepahan SC. Maturing into a competent fullback, his ability to play high up on the pitch made him a watched-out-for prospect in Iranian football. He would be selected for Iran’s youth teams, representing his nation at various tiers of youth football.
In 2014, Nasr-Azadani joined the Tehran Rah-Ahan team, playing in Iran’s Premier League for the first time. He joined Tractor SC a year later, plying his talents in one of Iran’s top clubs till 2018 when he suffered an ACL injury that sidelined him for over a year. He would re-emerge in Iran’s second division, though his career would be marred with a spate of injuries.

Iranian soccer player Amir Nasr-Azadani is facing execution amid anti-government protests in Iran following the death of 22-year-old Masha Amini in September 2022.
Nasr-Azadani was arrested in Isfahan, Iran for allegedly taking part in an armed riot on Sept. 16 that killed three security agents. Isfahan judiciary chief Abdullah Jafari said Nasr-Azadani has been accused of “rebellion, membership in illegal gangs, collusion to undermine security and therefore assisting in (enmity against God).”
As a result, Nasr-Azadani faces execution as a possible punishment.
On Tuesday, December 13, 2022, FIFPRO, the international soccer players union, released a statement in support for Nasr-Azadani and called on the Iranian government to let him live.
FIFPRO said in its statement: “FIFPRO is shocked and sickened by reports that professional footballer Amir Nasr-Azadani faces execution in Iran after campaigning for women’s rights and basic freedom in his country.
“We stand in solidarity with Amir and call for the immediate removal of his punishment.”
Former Iranian soccer star Ali Karimi came to Nasr-Azadani’s defense on social media.
“The voice of Amir Nasr Azadani is one of the victims of the power of the child-killing government,” Karimi tweeted. “Don’t execute Amir.”
At the 2022 World Cup, the Iranian national team chose to protest the government’s crackdown on those protesting in favor of women’s rights by refusing to sing the national anthem ahead of its match against England. However, the team did sing the anthem in the final two games of the group stage.
