Adam Handling Biography – Adam Handling Wiki
Adam Handling is a British chef and restaurateur. The Dundee-born chef started his culinary training at the age of 16 as the first apprentice chef at the famous Gleneagles Hotel in Perthshire, Scotland. He has since held numerous positions in kitchens around the UK including sous chef at the Malmaison hotel in Newcastle, head chef at Fairmont St Andrews, and head chef at St Ermin’s Hotel in St James’ Park, London.
“I started out at Gleneagles Hotel in Scotland and was their first ever trainee chef,” he told Luxury Lifestyle Magazine. “In the beginning, I didn’t know I wanted to be a chef and just wanted to avoid going to uni, but I soon fell in love with the feeling of being in a busy, fast-paced kitchen. I then went on to become Fairmont’s youngest Head Chef, which culminated in winning Scottish Chef of the Year in 2011. After that came MasterChef in 2013 and I opened my first independent restaurant in 2016.”
He is the owner of the Adam Handling Restaurant Group which encompasses five food and drink venues including The Frog restaurant and Eve bar in Covent Garden, The Loch & The Tyne in Old Windsor, and Ugly Butterfly on the Cornish coast in St Ives. Adam rose to fame at the age of 25 on MasterChef: The Professionals in 2013.
Sustainability is at the heart of Adam’s approach to food, with a key emphasis on minimising food waste, and he’s created his flagships – The Frog restaurant and Eve bar in Covent Garden – with complete dedication to this ethos. In 2016, The Adam Handling Restaurant Group was born and Adam went on to open The Loch and the Tyne in the countryside of Old Windsor, before opening up Ugly Butterfly on the beautiful Cornish coast in St Ives.
Adam has a number of impressive awards under his belt, including Scottish Chef of the Year, British Culinary Federation’s Chef of the Year, Chef of the Year in the Food & Travel Awards. Adam was the youngest person to be one of the Caterer’s ‘30 under 30 to watch’ in the 2013 Acorn Awards. Most recently, voted both by the public and a selection of esteemed industry judges, Adam received Restaurateur of the Year in the British GQ Food and Drink Awards 2020. The chef won a Michelin star for his Covent Garden restaurant in the Michelin Guide for Great Britain and Ireland 2022.
Adam credits his success to the rigorous training he received at the prestigious Gleneagles hotel in Perthshire, Scotland, as their youngest ever apprentice.

My son Oliver is nearly one, which is keeping us on our toes! I also love to eat out and try new restaurants as much as I can.
