Leia Gaccione is the Chef and Owner of south+pine American eatery in Morristown, NJ, where she serves up dishes like crispy monkfish and pork belly porchetta. The 37-year-old also formerly owned the Madison restaurant Central+Main, which closed in September.

Growing up in Passaic, New Jersey, with her brother and mother, young Gaccione skipped playing outside in order to watch cooking shows like The Frugal Gourmet and Julia Child. Since her mother worked two jobs to support the family, Gaccione began cooking at home at a young age.

She studied culinary arts and restaurant management at the New York Restaurant School (2001 – 2003), earning her Associates Degree in Culinary Arts and Restaurant Management and graduating on the Dean’s List. She has worked in many restaurants, most recently as the Chef de Cuisine for Bobby Flay at five of his restaurants, including Mesa Grill, Bar Americain and Gato in New York, Mesa Grill in Las Vegas, and Bar Americain in Connecticut, before opening south+pine in 2015.

She has appeared on the Food Network series “Iron Chef America,” “Beat Bobby Flay,” “Iron Chef Showdown,” “Chopped” and is the host of the documentary film “Her Name is Chef” about women chefs and the obstacles they face to making it in the restaurant industry.

The Jersey chef joins 14 other culinary talents in the “Top Chef” kitchen along with hosts Padma Lakshmi, Elizabeth’s Tom Colicchio and Gail Simmons, plus a series of visiting celebrity chefs who serve as judges.

“So I’ve been keeping a secret for a while but today is the day that I can share the news- I am on the new season of @bravotopchef,” Gaccione wrote on Instagram. “So excited for this and to have had this experience with such a talented group of chefs, who I am lucky to call friends.”
