Will Mellor is an English actor and singer. He is known for his many acting roles over the last 30 years, including starring in Hollyoaks, Two Pints of Lager and a Packet of Crisps, Line of Duty and Broadchurch. Most recently he appeared in Coronation Street as Harvey Gaskell.

As well as his acting career, Will reached number 5 in the UK Singles Chart with ‘When I Need You’ in 1998. He recently toured the UK with a live version of the popular podcast he co-hosts with Ralf Little, Two Pints with Will and Ralf.

“It’s great being able to say ‘My wife’,” he said. “We were always a good unit but now we’re married, it feels stronger somehow, more solid. Can you believe it? I’m an old married man now and I love it.”

When it came to marriage, Mellor gave it a wide berth. Even when his long-term girlfriend Michelle McSween made him a dad, he wouldn’t commit himself.

“You’ve got to be 110 per cent sure and I’m not and don’t know if I ever will be,” he said at the time. “I’m only going to marry the once and if it’s Michelle, it’s Michelle – if it’s not, it’s not.”

“I told Michelle we both had to be 100 per cent and she felt the same way because neither of us wants to do this all again.

“And as soon as I felt that way, I proposed. I knew I wanted to ask her to marry me when we were away in Grenada at Christmas so I planned to ask her parents first and do it all properly.”

In December 2006, while the pair were enjoying a romantic sunshine holiday, Mellor asked Michelle’s parents for her hand and then got down on one knee.

“It was all absolutely perfect,” he said. “Fortunately Michelle’s parents said ‘yes’ so one day I took her out on a boat, just the two of us.

“I took some music and played our song and with the sun setting behind us on the ocean, I knelt down and asked her to be my wife.

“It was very romantic and I admit I did get a bit teary, I don’t know why. I thought it was the woman who was supposed to cry but in this case it was me.

“I think the occasion hit me all at once because it was just so right and exactly how I’d imagined it would be.”
