Thriston Lawrence is a South African professional golfer who plays on the European Tour and the Sunshine Tour. He claimed his maiden victory on the European Tour at the 2021 Joburg Open, which was reduced to 36-holes due to inclement weather and the discovery of a new Covid-19 variant. A two-time winner on the Sunshine Tour, Lawrence had his first win in 2018 at the Big Easy Challenge 15 – Parkview, followed by his second success at the 2019 Vodacom Origins Stellenbosch.
The South African golfer won the 2013 and 2014 South African Amateur Championship. He rose to prominence when he first represented Mpumalanga at the SA Junior Inter-Provincial at the age of 13 and won the SA Boys U-14 Stroke Play. In 2012, he claimed the SA Boys U-19 Match Play Championship at Katberg. At 16 years, two months and 26 days, Lawrence became the youngest champion of the Sanlam South African Open Championship in the 106 year history of the event at Country Club Johannesburg in 2013.
Before turning professional, Lawrence became the first South African to lift the Lytham Trophy during the tournament’s 50th edition in 2014. He turned professional in 2014 at the age of 17.
