Taylor Dee (born Taylor Dawn Carroll) was a country music singer from Garland, Texas. Her first single, The Buzz, was released on June 14, 2019, and became a hit on local Texas radio stations.

Taylor Dee started her music career at the age 12 when she auditioned for All State Regional Choir and got accepted. She was in choir all through high school, and joined a variety band with her peers performing all over Dallas, TX including the Mayors Christmas party. She was also asked to sing the National Anthem at a playoff game in high school. When she graduated high school in 2005, Taylor joined her first band, Chasing Highways.

Taylor Dee auditioned for American Idol in 2009, and The Voice in 2015. She was not successful and almost gave up but landed a gig with a band in Boerne, TX called Loaded Revolver in 2017.

Taylor Dee moved back home and had to leave her band after her mother’s house burnt down in 2018. She didn’t know where or how to get started on her music in Dallas, until she met songwriter Chad Roland at a bar in Royse City, TX, and Amy Johnson, when she was there performing an acoustic show. They began working together tirelessly and 8 short months later went to Nashville, Tennessee to record Taylor Dee’s first album.

Taylor Dee died on March 14, 2021, at age 33, following a car crash in Euless, Texas. According to Euless police, she was driving an SUV on State Highway 183 around 10:30 p.m when she may have missed the turn for her exit before slamming into a barrier. The SUV rolled, hit an overhead sign, and ejected Dee from the vehicle.

Officials said she was not wearing a seat belt and also noted a second person in the SUV had minor injuries and is expected to fully recover.

The Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office is performing a toxicology screen to determine if alcohol played a part in the accident and the case remains under investigation.

Linda Wilson, president of the Texas Country Music Association, said in a statement: “Taylor Dee was the real deal – a true talent with a heart and passion not only for her music but for people,” she said. “In every performance, her talent was evident, but more importantly she allowed her fans to know her heart. She will be missed tremendously.”

Songwriter Chad Roland said: “I first met Taylor in October 2018 but it felt as if we knew each other many lifetimes. Since then we have played music, laughed, shared stories and a few secrets, wrote, cried, toured, prayed, and fought. Needless to say, we were close. We genuinely loved each other, and we hoped that love spilled into the music.”

A GoFundMe campaign has been set up to help raise money for the funeral expenses. The GoFundMe fundraiser has already raised $12,910 of its $15,000 goal.

A statement on the GoFundMe page reads, “Taylor Carroll aka Taylor Dee was a shining star who was going to make it in this world and chasing her dreams like the rest of us wish we could. She was a great mother of two beautiful children that she will be leaving behind. She could make you laugh about the craziest things. Her spirit was so free and she had a voice that the angels could hear. She had your back even when you didn’t know it. Her laugh is something you can hear when she says LOL. She will be forever loved and missed. She left this world sooner than any of us were ready for. Please help our family be able to lay her to rest. Keep Singing and Fly High 07/16/87-03/14/21.”
