Sherrill Ann “Sherri” Moyer was the wife of Hudson Mayor Craig A. Shubert. She had been chair of the executive board and pastoral council for the Diocese of Cleveland. Prior to that, she had been director of parish resources for St. Mary Catholic Church in Hudson where she facilitated a $2.1 million renovation of the church.

At the time of her death, Moyer was a doctoral candidate at Union Institute and University in Cincinnati. She had completed all of her course study and had started working on her thesis detailing the lives of the early female leaders of the church — a combination of church history, theology, feminist studies and management styles.

Moyer earned a master’s degree in theology from St. Mary Seminary at the Center for Pastoral Leadership in Willoughby, a master’s degree in business administration from Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland and a bachelor’s degree in psychology from St. Lawrence University in Canton, New York.

Craig Shubert’s wife Sherri Moyer died at 6:51 p.m. Friday, Sept. 3, with her husband at her side in their home.

Moyer was diagnosed in December 2020 with stage IV Non-Hodgkin lymphoma — an aggressive B cell blood cancer — after a tumor was discovered on her right tibia several weeks earlier. She underwent surgery to remove the tumor and repair a bone fracture at Summa Akron City Hospital. Five rounds of intense chemotherapy to save her life followed before she was sent to University Hospitals Seidman Cancer Center in Cleveland.

The UH medical team tried four more drug therapies and eight partial units of radiation, but to no avail, Shubert said. On June 22, 2021 — four days after her 60th birthday — doctors told the first lady her cancer was no longer curable. On July 12, Moyer transitioned to hospice care at home.
