Samuel Edozie Biography – Samuel Edozie Wiki

Samuel Edozie (born Samuel Ikechukwu Edozie) is an English professional footballer who plays as a winger for the Premier League club Manchester City. He can also play as an attacking midfielder. Manchester City signed Sam from Millwall in July 2019 for an initial £600,000. The fee could rise above £1 million depending on the Nigeria-born player’s progress.

Edozie impressed with his pace and trickery in his debut campaign with City and progressed to the EDS squad in 2020/21. In the 2020-21 season, he split his time between the U23s and U18s, with both sides winning their respective league titles. He was one of the younger members of the squad that won the 2020 FA Youth Cup.

He was a key part of City’s Elite Development Squad’s inaugural 2020-21 Premier League 2 triumph. The 18-year-old winger scored in each of City’s pre-season-friendly matches ahead of the 2021-22 season. He began the pre-season by scoring the second goal in a 2-0 victory over Preston North End after being introduced off the bench at half-time. He then followed that up by starting the next two, against Barnsley and Blackpool, and scoring the openers in both wins.

“As a young talent, having a special quality, a guy who gets to the box with intention to score a goal – it’s so important for wingers,” Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola said after Edozie’s performance against Blackpool in the final friendly of the summer. “He’s an incredible young player with good pace. But we have to be patient with him. He had minutes and played good and this is important.”

On 7 August 2021, Edozie made his Manchester City debut in a 1-0 defeat to Leicester City in The FA Community Shield at Wembley Stadium. Cole Palmer and Samuel Edozie both took big steps in their development by featuring in the starting eleven – and Pep Guardiola was pleased with their output.

“The courage of the young guys Sam and Cole and the control we had – they only had long balls in the second half. They are important players. What I like about them, – Cole was exceptional all game – but when they lost one ball, they tried and tried again,” the Manchester City boss said in a club statement. “In the first half, Pereira won the duels with Sam, because he is a top player, but in the second half Sam was better.” He continued, “They both like to dribble. They were both exceptional on a big stage at Wembley. They were so good. Congratulations to the Academy.”

Edozie played for Millwall’s Under-18 and Under-19 teams. He made his England U18s debut in the 2-0 victory over Wales on 29 March 2021. He remains eligible to also represent Nigeria.
