Ramsey Bearse (born Ramsey Bethann Carpenter) is a former Miss Kentucky and Miss America contestant. She worked as a teacher at Andrew Jackson Middle School in Cross Lanes, West Virginia.
Ramsey Bearse graduated from the University of Kentucky with a Bachelor of Arts degree in special education with a focus on learning and behavior disorders.
Bearse was named Miss Kentucky 2014 on July 12, 2014. She competed for the title of Miss America 2015, where she won the preliminary talent competition and placed in the Top 12 as a semi-finalist. Her platform issue was multiple sclerosis awareness.
Ramsey Bearse was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis ten days after her 20th birthday on August 25, 2010. After her diagnosis, Ramsey drew strength from the journey of David Osmond, a musician who had also lost his ability to play during his initial MS diagnosis. She adopted his motto as her own: I have MS, but MS does not have me. She has served as a spokeswoman for the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.
Ramsey started playing the fiddle when she was eight years old. she participated in musical competitions at festivals and other venues while in high school and college such as the national anthem for the opening football game for the University of Kentucky.
It was after Ramsey’s beauty competition career, that she started teaching science at Andrew Jackson Middle School in Cross Lanes, West Virginia.
On December 5, 2018, authorities in Kanawha County received a complaint from the mother of a 15-year-old boy that her son had received “inappropriate pictures” from Ramsey. Officers met Ramsey a day later and she admitted to sending topless photos to the teenage boy via Snapchat between August 2018 and October 2018.
She was arrested on December 7, 2018, and was charged with four felony counts of distribution or display of obscene matter to minors. In December 2019, she pleaded guilty to one count of possessing material depicting minors in sexually explicit conduct.
On Tuesday, July 14, 2020, Ramsey BethAnn Bearse was sentenced in Kanawha County Circuit Court to two years in prison. She was also sentenced to an additional 10 years of supervised release and must register as a sex offender for life.
