Peter Bonetti born Peter Phillip Bonetti was a former Chelsea and England goalkeeper. He made 729 appearances for Chelsea and kept 208 clean sheets. He assisted Chelsea to win the 1964-65 League Cup, the 1970 FA Cup, and the UEFA Cup Winners’ Cup in 1971. He held the record for the most clean sheets as a Chelsea goalkeeper until January 2014, when Petr Cech surpassed him. He played five games for Dundee United in 1979. He also had a stint in the US with the St Louis Stars before retiring.
Bonetti made seven appearances for England, including in the 1970 World Cup finals. He was in the 1966 World Cup-winning squad, but did not play, belatedly receiving a winners’ medal in June 2009.
After retiring, he became a goalkeeping coach with Manchester City, Chelsea and the England team. In 1986, at the age of 45, appeared for non-league Woking as they beat Weymouth 1-0 in the FA Cup.

Our former goalkeeper had been suffering from long-term illness. All at Chelsea wish to send our heartfelt and deepest condolences to Peter’s family and friends.”

We send our condolences to his family and all the people who knew him. Peter was an absolute legend for the club on and off the pitch and that’s how he’ll be remembered.”
