Maria Thattil is a model, writer, speaker, digital creator, and former pageant titleholder. On 28 October 2020, she was crowned Miss Universe Australia 2020 by Priya Serrao (Miss Universe Australia 2019) of Victoria at Sofitel Melbourne on Collins, Melbourne, Victoria. She went on to represent Australia at Miss Universe 2020 in Florida and placed in the Top 10.
