Malakai Bayoh is a singer and contestant on Britain’s Got Talent (BGT) 2023. He began singing as a Chorister at St George’s Cathedral, Southwark. He attends The Cardinal Vaughan Memorial School in West London and sings with the School’s acclaimed Schola Cantorum, under the direction of Scott Price.
In November 2022, Malakai made his Royal Opera House debut, singing the role of Oberto in Handel’s Alcina, alongside some of the biggest opera singers of today. He received critical acclaim, and The Daily Telegraph declared him ‘a star in the making’. The opera won a 2023 Olivier Award for best new opera production.
A month later, he was joined by singer and Classic FM presenter Aled Jones for seasonal duets in St Paul’s Church, Covent Garden. Their renditions of ‘O Holy Night’ and ‘Walking in the Air’ rapidly spread around the world, amassing more than 25 million views, with social media shares from American actress Viola Davis, among many others
In April 2023, Malakai made his Royal Albert Hall solo debut, singing Mozart and Handel arias with the orchestra of English National Opera at Classic FM Live.
Away from singing, he enjoys playing computer games, the saxophone and supporting Liverpool Football Club. When he is older he wants to be an opera singer.

Appearing on Good Morning Britain, Malakaishared how he got into singing. He explained that it was his mum, who joined him on the show, who pushed him to get into singing at a young age.
“My mum made me join my local choir when I was 7 years old. And after that I joined my secondary school, with that there came opportunities to do operas and concerts and stuff too,” he said.
His mother shared that she pushed her son to get into singing after hearing him sing a rendition of Lukas Graham’s ‘7 years’, when he himself was seven years old.
She said: ‘His older sister was in the choir and every year they would sing me for me. When I heard him sing for the first time I said “you’re auditioning for the choir”. He had a friend’s party and I said: “You’re not going unless you audition”‘.

13-year-old treble Malakai M Bayoh is a contestant in the 16th season of the hit show, Britain’s Got Talent. He was awarded a Golden Buzzer by Simon Cowell following his performance of Pie Jesu by Andrew Lloyd Webber.
The singer told breakfast show Good Morning Britain hosts Susanna Reid and Ed Balls: “It was a really cool experience to have, especially singing in front of all the judges. I was really surprised because I didn’t know he [Simon] would press the golden buzzer.”

On 8 November 2022, child actor Malakai M Bayoh was heckled and booed during the Royal Opera House performance of Alcina. Malakai gave his debut performance in the role of Oberto.
In a statement shared with The Independent, a spokesperson for the Royal Opera House shared the company’s appreciation for Bayoh’s work as well as their “appalled” reaction to the behaviour of the audience member.
“We would like to congratulate Malakai M Bayoh for his stellar performance as Oberto in our first night of Alcina,” the statement said. “Malakai is astonishingly talented – bringing great acting and beautiful singing to the role – a huge accomplishment for such a young singer.
“Unfortunately, the opening night of Alcina featured an audience member who disrupted the show and Malakai’s excellent performance. We are appalled that a member of the audience behaved in this way, and our support is with Malakai and the cast and creative team of Alcina.”
The statement concluded by stating that the company had “taken steps” to ensure that the offending audience member would not be permitted to return for future shows.
