Lorenzen Wright born Lorenzen Vern-Gagne Wright, was an American professional basketball player. He played for Lafayette high school in Mississippi before moving to Memphis where he spent his senior year playing for Booker T. Washington High School.
He was a star player for the University of Memphis. After being selected seventh overall by the Los Angeles Clippers in the 1996 NBA Draft out of the University of Memphis, Wright moved on to the Atlanta Hawks in 1999. He was traded to the Memphis Grizzlies in 2001, but returned to the Hawks in 2006. On February 16, 2008, he was involved in a multi-player trade, going from Atlanta to Sacramento for Mike Bibby.

Lorenzen Wright was reported missing by his mother, Deborah Marion, on July 22, 2010 and on July 28, his badly decomposed body was discovered in the woods of Memphis, ten days after he had last been seen alive. Police determined he was shot in the early hours of July 19. An autopsy report released later that year showed he was shot at least 11 times, including twice in the head and twice in the chest.
After his disappearance in 2010 and the subsequent discovery of his body, thousands of people gathered inside FedExForum for his memorial service, including former Memphis mayor Willie Herenton and U.S. Rep. Steve Cohen.
On December 4, 2017, Billy Ray Turner — a church deacon and business owner — was arrested on charges related to Lorenzen Wright’s death. Lorenzen Wright’s ex-wife Sherra Wright Robinson was also arrested on charges related to Wright’s death.
According to the Memphis Police Department, she was “indicted and arrested” for conspiracy, criminal attempted first degree and first-degree murder.
In an unscheduled court hearing on July 25, 2019, Sherra Wright Robinson pleaded guilty to facilitation to commit first-degree murder and facilitation to commit attempted first-degree murder, according to prosecutor Paul Hagerman. Defense lawyer Juni Ganguli said the facts were stipulated, and the defense agreed to the guilty plea.
Judge Lee Coffee told Sherra Wright that she would have an effective sentence of 30 years at 30-percent release eligibility. She could have faced life in prison if convicted at trial in September 2019.
