Lindsay Dentlinger Biography – Lindsay Dentlinger Wiki
Lindsay Dentlinger is a South African Parliamentary Journalist. She reports for the eNews Channel Africa. Lindsay graduated with a Journalism Degree, Linguistics, and Industrial Psychology, from the Rhodes University, in Makhanda in the Eastern Cape Province of South Africa. She did her degree between 1994 and 1997. She went on to earn her Masters of Journalism and Media Studies, from Rhodes University.
During the SONA Debate and the Budget Speech, she was spotted interviewing maskless white politicians. In another interview, Dentlinger was seen asking and insisting her black guests to put their masks on. The two occasions have seen her get a lot of criticism all over social media and termed as a racism act. The UDM’s Nqabayomzi Kwankwa and the IFP’s Mkhuleko Hlenga have both been concerned by the incident. The two MPs who were allegedly on the end of ‘unconscious racism’ from an eNCA journalist Dentlinger, have both raised concerns against Dentlinger.
Dentlinger has found herself in the hot pan after some video clips of her treating black interviewees differently and unfriendly from their white counterparts went viral all over social media.
The Media station (eNCA), has come out to defend Dentlinger. The Managing Editor at eNCA John Bailey said that “In an intense live broadcast environment like the Budget Speech coverage, our journalists are under pressure to remain compliant while delivering fair, accurate and balanced news. The journalist had to contend with being live on air and taking producer instructions via her earpiece and unfortunately failed to request that the interviewee wear a mask. Criticism to this extent leveled at a journalist under these circumstances is unfair and unfortunate. Comments and some video content that are currently being shared is maliciously misleading.”
Managing Director, Norman Munzhelele, came on to add saying that, “After carefully analyzing the situation, we understand that given the pressure of the live TV environment such unplanned occurrences can occur. Through our deliberations, we have found that there is no mal intent on the part of the journalist. We further found that the way the journalist and eNCA has been perceived through this incident is unfair and not a true reflection of the journalist or our channel. We also appreciate the sensitivity of the matter and people’s concerns and reaffirm our commitment to encouraging compliance with regulations designed to inhibit transmission of Covid-19 across our population irrespective of race, colour, or creed.”
Dentlinger has received a lot of criticism from all over. The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) has termed Dentlinger’s actions as racist micro-aggressions and says it reveals a deep-seated disrespect for Black people.
