Huberdeau showcased his hockey prowess early in his career, excelling with the Ste. Eustache Vikings in the Quebec Midget League. His exceptional performance led to his selection by the Saint John Sea Dogs in the first round of the 2009 QMJHL Midget draft.

He continued to impress, becoming the leading scorer among 16-year-olds in the QMJHL during the 2009–10 season and earning recognition as the league’s scholastic player of the month in January 2010. In his rookie season, the Sea Dogs reached the QMJHL finals.
