JJ Tabane Biography
Onkgopotse JJ Tabane is a communications expert and CEO of Sgwili Media Group. He is also a columnist for the Sunday Times and The Star, and author of Let’s Talk Frankly.
He serves as non-executive chairman of the Utembezi Tourism Group and chairman of the Indalo Yethu Trust. He serves as Executive Director for Tshirundu Communications (Pty) Ltd. Mr. Tabane served as Chairperson of Indalo Yethu Trust.
As a communications expert, Tabane has served as Director of Corporate Affairs for Altron Incorporated. He served as a Vice President of South African Airways, Communications & Government Liaison, Head of Communications of Chamber of Mines of SA, Head of Ministry for the Department of Environmental Affairs and Tourism, Head of Communications for Dept. of Environmental Affairs and Tourism and Head of Communication for World Summit on Sustainable Development.
He was a Member of Bokamoso Investment Trust for Youth and 2010 Communications Task Team. He was Non-Executive Director of Johannesburg Tourism Council/Company and the Gauteng Tourism Authority. He was a Member of Council of University of the North West. He was Ministerial Spokesperson of Departments for Provincial and Local Government, Constitutional Development and Environmental Affairs. At World Summit on Sustainable Development, he won the Communicator of the Year Award in 2002.
JJ Tabane Qualifications
Tabane holds BProc from University of the Western Cape in 1998, BA Degree from University of the North in 1992 and an MA in SA Politics and Political Economy from Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University in 2004. Tabane is also a PhD Candidate in Media Studies at Wits University.
