Jerry Bishop born Gerald Blume was a longtime announcer for the television show “Judge Judy” and a radio personality in Los Angeles. He served as the announcer for the courtroom television show “Judge Judy” since its inception in 1994.
Bishop earned a degree in broadcast journalism from Emerson College. He got his start in radio at Hartford’s WDRC. He moved to the west coast in 1963, landing at KCBQ in San Diego. In 1965, he moved to Los Angeles to join KLAC.
In 1969, he joined KFI and during his 5-year stay there, he co-hosted “Sports Phone.” He later moved to KIIS, where he partnered with Tom Murphy to host the “Tom and Jerry Show” in 1979. During his radio career, Bishop interviewed industry notables such as Natalie Wood, Steve McQueen, and Frank Sinatra.
Bishop also did voice-over campaigns for brands including Miller Coors, Budweiser and Burger King. He also did promotional voice work for the ABC and NBC and was the voice of the Disney Channel for 15 years.

Judge Judy Sheindlin said in a statement to TMZ: “Jerry Bishop has been the voice of our program for 24 years. His voice was powerful, soothing, and caring, which are three qualities he embodied so well. Everybody loved him. He had a golden heart and generous spirit. I adored him and will miss him.”
Arlene Thornton, Jerry’s agent of 35 years said in a statement: “Jerry was far more than a client, he was a friend and the best friend that anybody could ever have. He was a prince and a mensch but he was truly family.”
