Washington Jakoyo Midiwo was a Kenyan politician. He served as the MP for Gem constituency from 2002 to 2017 when he lost the seat to the current MP Elisha Ochieng Odhiambo. Prior to the 2017 elections, Jakoyo fell out with Raila’s ODM party and decamped the party to contest as an independent. He has been eyeing a political comeback ahead of the 2022 elections.

Jakoyo Midiwo died at the age of 54 on Monday, June 14, 2021, at Nairobi Hospital after suffering cardiac arrest, his cousin Ruth Odinga confirmed the tragic news. ODM director of communications, Philip Etale, tweeted: “Hon. Jakoyo Midiwo has rested. Please pray for the family during this difficult moment.”
The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party Communications Director said in a statement on Twitter: “Sad day for our party. We have just lost a gallant son of the soil, a founder member of the Change Movement & a three time Member of Parliament for Gem Hon. Jakoyo Midiwo. He was a defender of the party & never shied away from speaking the truth. To the family, we say POLE SANA.”

Jakoyo Midiwo’s cause of death is yet to be revealed. According to his cousin Ruth Odinga, he suffered a cardiac arrest. “It is true, Jakoyo is dead. He suffered a cardiac arrest,” said Ruth.
