Forest Kwok Biography – Forest Kwok Wiki

Forest Kwok is the Chief Marketing Officer at Vitl and a contestant on MasterChef UK 2023. He grew up in Hong Kong, moving to the UK when he was 15 and then going onto study at Oxford University. He now lives in Walton-on-Thames with his partner and husky puppy.

How would you describe your style of cooking?

“I like to make complex dishes that look minimalistic and elegant. But regardless of the presentation, they always need to be delicious. I used to study art at school and therefore seek to channel that creativity into my cooking.”

“I am inspired by modern British fine dining and it is on my bucket list to learn the way of a Michelin star chef. Some of my food heroes are Heston Blumenthal, Jason Atherton, and Oli Dabbous. In fact, one of my tutors when I was studying at Oxford University was a food scientist who worked with Heston to explore how multisensory experiences affect the way we enjoy food, and I knew nothing about it at that time. Talk about wasted opportunities.”

What is your earliest cooking memory?

“My family don’t really cook so there is no childhood story of me lingering under the kitchen table to share. I didn’t get into cooking until I started working and discovered the world of restaurants and incredible food. A far cry from the instant noodles and jacket potatoes I used to live off at university!”

Why did you enter MasterChef?

“I have always been a MasterChef fan and the opportunity of just being able to cook in the MasterChef kitchen, and for renowned people in the industry, really excited me. I want to be a better chef and doing a competition like this allows you to hone your skills and try new things.”

What is your food dream?

“At the core, I just want to be a really good chef and gain skills to produce incredible food at a professional level. I am addicted to learning new things and it would be fantastic to get the chance to travel the world and work in different restaurants, learn from top chefs and gather some great life experiences along the way.”
