Eric Woodward is an incumbent Councillor, mayor-elect of the Township of Langley, former technology entrepreneur and Chair of the Fort Langley Project charitable organization. He is serving his 1st term on the Township of Langley Council. He was first elected in 2018.
Before Council, Woodward was the President of the Fort Langley Business Improvement Association from 2012 to 2017. He was a Director of the Langley Memorial Hospital Foundation from 2014 to 2018.
Woodward also served on the Township of Langley’s Economic Development Advisory Committee from 2011 to 2015, and on the Heritage Advisory Committee from 2011 to 2013.
Woodward graduated high school from Langley Senior Secondary. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from the University of British Columbia.
Woodward was part of the internet industry at a young age, co-founding multiple successful companies. In 1994, Woodward left UBC during his 4th year to co-found his first technology company, Internet Direct. It became the largest internet service provider in Western Canada within 6 months.
After Internet Direct, Woodward co-founded Mail.com in 1996, which completed a successful IPO on the NASDAQ in 1998. He sold his last internet company, DomainWorks, in 2007.
Woodward left the technology industry a few years later to refocus his efforts more toward the local community, starting with the revitalization of Fort Langley.
Starting in 2005, Woodward has been working to revitalize Fort Langley’s commercial core. In 2017, he finished the LEED Gold Coulter Berry Building at the corner of Glover Road and Mavis Avenue, redefining the village.
Eric Woodward Langley Mayor
Eric Woodward was elected mayor of the Township of Langley in the municipal election held on October 15, 2022. Woodward defeated former B.C. Liberal cabinet minister Rich Coleman for the mayor’s chair. Woodward secured twice as many votes, with 10,911, as Coleman, who trailed in third with 4,923.
Along with Coleman, Woodward ran against independent candidates Blair Whitmarsh, who was serving his second term on council, and Michelle Sparrow, who served two consecutive terms as a councillor until 2018. Whitmarsh, who came second in the mayoral race, secured a total of 6,805 votes. Sparrow finished in fourth place with 3,188 votes.
