Eric Knowles Family

BBC Antiques Roadshow expert Eric Knowles and his wife Anita Knowles had two sons, Sebastian and Oliver Knowles. Sebastian died in a car crash on May 1, 2015, at the age of 26. He died in the accident after his Mercedes collided with a foreign-registered Heavy Goods Vehicle near Beaconsfield, the Daily Mail reported. Emergency services rushed to the scene after another driver made a 999 call, but he was declared dead at the scene.

An inquest heard that Sebastian Knowles had been driving in the motorway’s middle lane before inexplicably crossing into the inside lane and running into the back of the vehicle. A coroner said there was “no obvious reason” why the bank manager would have driven his white Mercedes C220 into the lorry, but said he could have momentarily fallen asleep at the wheel or been temporarily distracted.

A police investigation showed the lorry was driving at around 40mph in the inside lane of the M40 near Beaconsfield, Bucks., at the time of the collision. Accident investigators concluded Seb would have been driving at 96mph just before he ran into the lorry.

Seb Knowles was a well-known DJ who formerly worked at Wycombe Sound. He started working as a DJ at the age of 14 in his local roller disco. He spent a decade playing gigs in central London bars under the name DJ Sparky B and had worked with big names including The Artful Dodger and Ultrabeat. He also held a weekly radio slot on Time FM before moving to Wycombe Sound in 2013.

Colleagues and friends of Seb Knowles, who also worked at the Gerrards Cross Barclays bank branch, paid tribute to him on social media following the collision. Mark Jones, Barclays community leader for the Gerrards Cross branch, said:

“The tragic loss of Seb has left colleagues and customers at Barclays heartbroken. Seb was a rising star in our organisation, highly respected, and extremely well liked by everyone who worked with him, and he will be sorely missed. As we, ourselves, try to come to terms with a loss of an exemplary colleague, our thoughts and prayers are with Seb’s close family and friends at this difficult time.”

The National Association of Disc Jockeys (NADJ) wrote on Facebook: “All of us at NADJ would like to send our deepest condolences to the family and friends of Seb Knowles (DJ Sparky B) who tragically died earlier today. It’s always a tragedy someone is taken so young. He was a talented DJ who will be missed by all who knew him.”
