Elijah Faalua was a 17-year old Newcastle Knights junior player. He had primarily played on the wing for the Knights but scored a try in a win in March 2021 when he was moved to fullback.

Elijah Faalua Death – Elijah Faalua Car Accident

The 17-year old tragically passed away in a motor vehicle accident near Cessnock on Thursday, 8 April 2021. The car was being driven by another 17-year old before crashing into a barrier on a private road at Pelaw Main. Police said Faalua died at the scene after suffering critical injuries when he was thrown from the front passenger seat.

Newcastle Knights said in a statement released on Friday 9 April 2021: “The nib Newcastle Knights extend our sincere condolences to the friends and family of Harold Matthews Cup player Elijah Faalua, who tragically passed away in a motor vehicle accident on Thursday. The Club requests for all to respect the privacy of Elijah’s friends and family at this time.”

Maitland District Junior Rugby League Association said: “It’s With Broken Hearts we wish to advise of the passing of Elijah Faalua. Elijah was a member of Kurri Kurri minor rugby league and Maitland Representative player of the year in 2019.

“Our thoughts and love are with Eddie, Kim and their girls, we wish to respect the privacy of Elijahs family and friends at this time.

“As a rugby league community we are devastated, but we stand strong together. We have lost a true young gentleman, who was loved by all whom had the privilege of knowing him.”
