Dr. Jim Raman born James Wesley Raman, was an orthodontist at Irmo Smiles who completed on the 25th season of The Amazing Race.
He and his wife served as owners of Irmo Smiles, providing pediatric, family, cosmetic and orthodontic dentistry in the Irmo, Columbia and Lexington communities.
Jim was extremely passionate about bringing community and state awareness to the issues surrounding autism. Jim did much to help contribute toward the growth of a higher level of understanding and treatment in the greater Columbia area, and served as a board member of the Autism Academy of South Carolina. Jim proudly authored the document presented to the SC Assembly, which ultimately led to the passing of House Bill 3747, which required autism benefits in small group and individual health plans.

Following Raman’s death, Irmo Smiles issued a statement to its patients. The statement reads: “Irmo Smiles has suffered a tragic loss this week. It is with deep sadness that we share the news of the passing for Dr. Jim Raman. As our staff and the family prepare for Dr. Raman’s celebration of life, please join us in praying for peace and comfort during this difficult time.
“We will be working to reschedule Dr. Misti Raman’s patients and we apologize for any inconvenience this may cause you. Your patience is greatly appreciated as we give Dr. Misti Raman time to grieve the loss of her loving husband.”
