Delonte West (born Delonte Maurice West) is an American former professional basketball player. He played in the National Basketball Association (NBA) for the Boston Celtics (2004–2007 and 2010–2011), Seattle SuperSonics (2007–2008), Cleveland Cavaliers (2008–2010), and Dallas Mavericks (2011–2012). He also played professionally for the Fujian Xunxing (2013–2014) and Shanghai Sharks (2014) of the Chinese Basketball Association and the Texas Legends (2013 and 2015) of the NBA G League. Prior to his professional career, West played college basketball for Saint Joseph’s University (2001–2004).
Born in July 1983 in D.C., West burst onto the local basketball scene at Eleanor Roosevelt High School in Greenbelt, Md., where he was named as The Washington Post’s Boys Player of the Year as a senior. At Saint Joseph’s University in Philadelphia, West helped lead a team that finished the regular season a perfect 27-0 before losing in the Elite Eight of the NCAA tournament. Drafted in the first round by the Boston Celtics in 2004, West went on to play eight seasons in the NBA.
