Dan Mcneil Tweet – Dan Mcneil Maria Taylor Tweet
On Monday, September 14, 2020, during the broadcast of the New York Giants’ home opener against the Pittsburgh Steelers, Dan Mcneil tweeted a screenshot of Maria Taylor reporting from the sidelines at MetLife Stadium, writing: “NFL sideline reporter or a host for the AVN (Adult Video News) annual awards presentation?” The tweet has since been deleted. However, Awful Announcing had captured it.
Taylor hit back at radio host Dan McNeil on Tuesday morning, September 15, 2020. She tweeted: “Well Danny Dearest if you would like to continue making sexist comments about me…please bring your misogyny with you to the NBA Countdown double header I’ll be hosting tomorrow night. Hey ladies remember you can wear whatever you feel confident in! @670TheScore @DannyMac670.”
Dan Mcneil Fired
Dan Mcneil was fired from WSCR 670 The Score by Entercom on Tuesday, September 15, 2020, after The Score radio host sent out a crude tweet about ESPN’s Maria Taylor during the network’s “Monday Night Football” coverage.
Entercom regional president Rachel Williamson issued the following statement in a memo to staff: “Dan McNeil is no longer an employee at ‘The Score.’ For each one of us our words have power. For our brands and on-air personalities that is amplified and brings increased responsibility how we choose to use our voices. Last night’s tweet, and its degrading and humiliating tone to a fellow female broadcaster, was unacceptable. We have the best teams in Chicago, and we must continue to hold ourselves to high expectations to continue to be leaders in our organization, our industry and our community. We apologize to all who were offended by Dan’s words, especially Maria.”
Dan McNeil Family
McNeil revealed that Mental illness runs in his family. His mother died from suicide when he was 18. His sister has attempted suicide several times. In January 2019, Dan McNeil shared his mental health issues in a Facebook post. He apparently was triggered by a text from a listener who informed him he had been selected in the listener’s so-called dead pool in which the deaths of those chosen score points weighted toward the decedent’s relative youth. McNeil responded on living with vices, mental health issues and suicide, “Give the dude credit for a sound investment strategy; I’m a good ‘value pick’ in a pool like that.”
McNeil then shared the impact he imagined his death would have on his three sons. He wrote: “I must confess, this guy got to me. I even cried a few times. Daydreaming about my sons’ sadness over the void in their lives is an optic I’d just as soon avoid. What kind of human has so much contempt for a radio show, he wishes for _ at the minimum, bets on _ a guy’s death? So, hoping that guy is reading this _ as I did on the air, hoping he was listening _ I want him to quickly meet my sons, now bereaved by the loss of their dad.
“I want him to do it in the water where he releases his next” muskie, he wrote, urging his eldest to “sing a fishing parody we did and laugh. Don’t be blue. Be joyous over good times had.
“His sadness is my biggest fear. Fear isn’t strong enough. It … takes my breath away. He doesn’t have typical friends. He’s verbal, but not conversational. I am his life soulmate and he is mine. Patrick already has expressed being terrified over the eventual passing of loved ones. He’s close to very few and my departure would be catastrophic for him. He still asks me to tickle him when he goes to bed. He has the spirit and doting eyes of a 5-year-old looking at daddy.”
“I still smoke. Still 30 pounds too fat. I love coffee. Exercise is finding the remote when it’s lost in the sofa cushions. Publicly, I’ve been forthright about the toxins I’ve ingested. For decades. Mental illness runs in my family. I’ve been diagnosed depressive _ and some other fancy polysyllabic word better defined by the phrase ‘bi-polar lite.’ I take a pysch med, Lamotrigine, and do talk therapy. I do my best to have gratitude therapy at least once a day.”
“Bet the texter who took me didn’t know I even had that on my dead pool candidate resume. Sometimes I get defensive, but I don’t think I’m fragile.”
