Chris Duncan born Christopher Edwin Duncan, was a former Major League Baseball left fielder and first baseman. He was originally drafted in the first round (46th overall) by the Cardinals out of Canyon del Oro High School in Arizona in 1999. He made his MLB debut in 2005 and had back-to-back 20-home run seasons in 2006 and 2007.

He was a member of St. Louis’ 2006 World Series championship squad. He hit a home run during Game 5 of the National League Championship Series against the New York Mets. He also hit a go-ahead double against Detroit Tigers ace Justin Verlander in Game 1 of the World Series, propelling the Cardinals to a 7-2 win en route to a five-game victory.

He set a franchise rookie record with seven home runs in September 2006. He struggled to get regular playing time as he battled injuries over his next two seasons, was traded to the Red Sox and then retired soon after signing a deal with the Nationals.

However, he took a temporary leave from the radio station in March 2018 after his tumor returned in the fall of 2017. He later took a permanent leave in January 2019 to focus on his health.

He will always be a part of our family at the station and a big part of our community! RIP Dunc we love you!”

The Cardinals wrote on Twitter, “We are deeply saddened by the passing of Chris Duncan after his courageous battle against brain cancer. We extend our heartfelt sympathies to his wife, Amy, the entire Duncan family, and his many friends.”
