Chasten Glezman Buttigieg is a junior high school teacher at a Montessori Academy in nearby Mishawaka, Indiana. He teaches humanities and drama. He is an improv comedian and the husband of South Bend, Indiana mayor Pete Buttigieg.

He graduated with a bachelor’s degree in theater and global studies in 2011 from the University of Wisconsin. He went on to acquire a Masters of Education in curriculum studies from DePaul University graduating in 2017.

Chasten and Pete announced their engagement in December 2017 and were married by the Rev. Brian G. Grantz at the Episcopal Cathedral of St. James on June 23, 2018 before 200 guests.

The 30-minute ceremony, which was livestreamed on YouTube, featured a reading from Justice Anthony Kennedy’s majority opinion in Obergefell v. Hodges, the landmark 2015 case that granted marriage equality to same-sex couples in the United States.
