Brad McQuaid was an American video game designer. He was known for EverQuest, Vanguard: Saga of Heroes, and Pantheon: Rise of the Fallen.

According to Brad McQuaid’s bio on Visionary Realms’ website, “Brad served at Sony Online Entertainment as Vice President of Premium Games responsible for EverQuest, EverQuest 2, EverQuest Online Adventures, PlanetSide, and Star Wars: Galaxies. In addition, Brad was the company’s Chief Creative Officer.

“After leaving SOE in October 2001, Brad took a short break and then co-founded Sigil Games Online a few years later where he served as CEO for the development and launch of Vanguard: Saga of Heroes, which launched at the beginning of 2007.

“In February of 2012, Brad received an offer to return to SOE and work on a Vanguard re-launch. Brad accepted the offer and joined the team as a Senior Game Designer. After a year on Vanguard, he was offered a position back on the original EverQuest. He accepted the role as EQ Senior Game Designer from February through August 2013.”

Brad founded Visionary Realms in September 2013. The Visionary Realms team immediately began the development of Pantheon: Rise of the Fallen. In 2014, he successfully Kickstarter funded Pantheon: Rise of the Fallen.

McQuaid died on November 18, 2019 at the age of 51. His death was confirmed in a statement on Pantheon MMO’s website. The statement said, “It is with deep regret and profound sadness that we share that Brad McQuaid, Chief Creative Officer of Visionary Realms passed away in his home last night.

“Brad was a visionary, a mentor, an artist, a trailblazer, a friend, a husband, a father. He touched thousands of lives with his dreams and concepts. He changed the landscape of video games forever. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered in life and in Pantheon. Thank you, Brad, for bringing us together through your worlds. Rest in peace, Aradune.

“All of us at Visionary Realms offer our deepest condolences to Brad’s family and during this most difficult time, we kindly ask that you respect the privacy of Brad’s family.”

Pantheon MMO also tweeted, “It is with deep regret we share that Brad McQuaid passed away last night. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered by gamers worldwide. Thank you for bringing us together through your worlds. Rest in peace @Aradune. VR offers our deepest condolences to Brad’s family.”

John Smedley, former president of Sony Online Entertainment and Daybreak Games Company, paid tribute to McQuaid on Twitter. He wrote, “Brad was an amazingly talented creator and Everquest wouldn’t exist without his genius. He will be missed.”
