Barkha Cardoz is the wife and business partner of the late Chef Floyd Cardoz who reportedly died from complications relating to COVID-19. He died on March 25, 2020, while in hospital. He had checked himself into a hospital in New York City shortly after his coming back from India on March 8, 2020, with fever-like symptoms.
He was born in Bombay, India, and he then moved to New York City to work in restaurant kitchens. In the year 1997, he made a partnership with famed restaurateur Danny Meyer’s Union Square Hospitality Group to open the contemporary Indian restaurant Tabla, which rapidly grew to become an iconic Manhattan establishment, earning three stars from the New York Times. He subsequently opened North End Grill, Paowalla and Bombay Bread Bar in the city. He most recently opened The Bombay Canteen and Bombay Sweet Shop in Mumbai, India.

The winner at the Top Chef Masters was first admitted to the hospital with a fever last Wednesday, March 18, 2020, and he subsequently tested positive for COVID-19.
His fans, fellow contestants and colleagues posted a number of messages where they paid tribute to the departed chef in various social media platforms such as Twitter and Instagram.
