Atatiana Jefferson full name Atatiana Koquice Jefferson, was the woman shot and killed by police officer Aaron Dean, in her home in Fort Worth, Texas on Saturday, 12 October 2019.
According to Attorney Lee Merritt, who is representing Jefferson’s family, said Jefferson “was playing video games with her 8y/o nephew, when they heard a noise in the backyard. When Tay went to investigate, she was shot to death.”

The officer, who was not identified, has been with the department since April 2018. He was placed on administrative leave while the department conducts an internal investigation, according to NBC.

Body camera footage released by the Fort Worth Police Department shows that two officers had walked quietly around the side of the home. One officer, whose identity has not been released, had walked into Jefferson’s backyard. Seeing Jefferson in the window of her home, the officer yelled “put your hands up! Show me your hands!” and then fired a single shot through Jefferson’s window.

Jefferson graduated from Xavier University of Louisiana, a historically black Catholic college in New Orleans in 2014. She earned a bachelor’s degree in biology, according to a statement from university President Reynold Verret.
“Our prayers and thoughts are with her family and friends as we gather as a community in prayer,” Verret said in a letter to the Xavier community. “As we wait for details of this incident to unfold, let us cling to our mission of justice and humanity and seek answers to this tragedy.”

She was a Pre-med graduate of Xavier University. She was very close to her family. She was the auntie that stayed up on Friday night playing video games with her 8 year old nephew. She worked in pharmaceutical equipment sales. Her mom had recently gotten very sick, so she was home taking care of the house and loving her life. There was no reason for her to be murdered. None. We must have justice. This fund is the only direct campaign to offer support to the family of Atatiana Jefferson. Funds collected will go directly to funeral cost and other expenses associated with this tragedy.”
