Andile Gumbi was a South African television, stage and film actor. He played the character of adult Simba in the long-running Disney stage play, The Lion King. He gained further popularity for his portrayal of Zweli Ntshangase on the Mzansi Magic soap opera, IsiBaya alongside Jeffrey Sekele, Zinhle Mabena, Sibusisiwe Jili and Vusi Kunene.
In 2015, he appeared on the CBC six-part miniseries, The Book of Negroes. He was also a dancer, singer, and model. He died after suffering a cardiac arrest in Israel. He was in a coma a few days before his death. Mzansi Magic through his family confirmed his death on Friday, 25 October 2019.
His family released a statement saying: “On behalf of Mrs Gumbi and family, it is with profound sadness that we share the news that our beloved Andile passed away this morning. Andile received the best medical care possible.”
They also added: “We request that the family be given space to grieve and that their privacy be respected in this very difficult time. The family will make a statement at the appropriate time.”
He was a graduate of Durban University of Technology.

Andile Gumbi Cause of Death
The cause of his death was a Cardiac Arrest. He suddenly fell ill on Tuesday, 22 October 2019 and was rushed to an Israeli hospital in a critical condition after suffering from a cardiac arrest.
At the time, he was in the country to star in a production called Daniel The Musical where he plays King Nebuchadnezzar.
His wife flew to Israel to be by his side. The production revealed at the time that she stayed with him all the time and they hoped her presence would help him recover quicker.

The production confirmed the actor’s ill-health with a post on Facebook that read:
“In the early morning he deteriorated and suffered a cardiac arrest, but the medical personnel at Shaare Zedek Medical Centre managed to successfully resuscitate him. His present condition is critical. It is comforting to know that Andile Gumbi is receiving the best medical care in the world as he is fighting for his life and the medical professionals are trying to determine the cause of his condition. We further ask that people pray for his speedy and full recovery.”
Later, the production released another statement that read: “We thank everyone for your support and for all the prayers for Andile. Andile’s wife will be with him later today and we hope that her presence will help him in his recovery.”
In their last statement on behalf of the Gumbi family, he passed away in the early hours of Friday morning.
