Amy Andrews is an American journalist and the anchor of Fox 2 morning news. She is a prominent media personality based in Muncie, Indiana. She is also known for being a 2014 Favorite Female Media Personality in Detroit.
She holds a Bachelor of Arts BA in journalism from Oakland University. She also attended Specs Howard School of Media Arts in Southfield where she studied Radio and Television. Andrews graduated from Indiana University Bloomington where she did Biology/Pre Med. After graduating, the anchor worked at the WSYM in Lansing as a weekend sports anchor. On July 19, 2021, FOX 2 News Detroit morning anchor Amy Andrews underwent back surgery for a herniated disk at Beaumont Hospital, Royal Oak. Andrews told Detroit Free Press she was running on a beach in Florida’s Tampa Bay region, where her father lives, when her foot hit a rock under the sand.
“I lost my footing,” she said, explaing that the run was part of the training she had been doing for October’s Detroit Free Press Marathon. She took it easy but her back felt progressively worse until “on the day it was time to come home, I woke up and I couldn’t walk because my right leg was numb.”
Relying on an injection for the pain and using a wheelchair to get on the plane, she returned to metro Detroit for treatment to get home to her daughter.
On Monday, July 19, 2021, she had minimally invasive spine surgery to remove herniated disc fragments in her lower back. Dr. Daniel Park, who performed the surgery at Beaumont Royal Oak, told Detroit Free Press via email that such injuries can be treated successfully with physical therapy and medication, but “Amy was experiencing a significant amount of pain and could not walk, as her right leg was getting weaker.”
The following day after the surgery, Andrews tweeted: “Thank you so much to all those who’ve written, called, visited me in hospital and sent goodies… but mostly for your prayers. Back surgery was a success. I’m resting comfortably with the amazing workers at [Beaumont Health]. Love to you all.”
