Alice Finot Biography – Alice Finot Wiki

Alice Finot is a French professional athlete and automotive engineer. The Olympian is a four-time national champion in 3000m steeplechase, 2024 European champion and 2021 European Indoor Championships 3000m silver medallist. She was awarded the French Athletics Federation’s Best Female Athlete of the Year in 2023.

According to her Paris Olympics bio, Alice finished fifth in the 3000m steeplechase at the 2023 World Championships in 9:06.15 (later upgraded to fourth following a doping disqualification), moving up to third in the European all-time list behind 2008 Olympic champion Gulnara Samitova-Galkina of Russia and Gesa Felicitas Krause of Germany.

Alice discovered athletics at age 13 through school cross-country races and joined the local athletics club where she trained twice a week. Athletics was just a sport amongst others at that time. She took part in equestrian (jumping) in several French Championships starting at age 11, having started horse riding at age four.

After high school, Alice stopped running for six years to travel and concentrate on her engineering studies. In her final year of training in Taiwan, she met her Spanish boyfriend who dared her to enter a local half marathon. She won the race in 1:41. In 2016, she relocated to Spain to live with him and joined the local athletics club. She started with road running and was later asked to take part in inter-clubs competitions, which brought her back to the track.

Alice was supposed to represent France at the 2020 World Half Marathon Championships on 29 March 2020, but the competition was postponed to October due to the Covid-19 pandemic. She declined her selection in October to give priority to the track. She made her international debut for France at age 30 at the European Indoor Championships in March 2021.

Alice was employed as an engineer at the Automotive Technology Center of Galicia (CTAG) when she claimed the 3000m silver medal at the 2021 European Indoor Championships. After a serious tendon injury sidelined her, causing her to miss the Tokyo Olympic Games, she decided to commit herself fully to the sport to get a chance at becoming a contender on the world stage.

Alice won the 2024 European Championships. She had to wait for two hours for her European title to be confirmed. She was initially disqualified for stepping over the inside border of the track, just after the water jump, but a successful appeal by France reversed the decision.

Alice graduated in 2015 as a Generalist Engineer from EPF Engineering School in France.

Alice Finot Proposal

French athlete Alice Finot proposed to longtime boyfriend Bruno Martínez Bargiela at the Paris Summer Olympics following the women’s 3000m steeplechase finals on Tuesday, August 6, 2024. The French runner helped to break the European women’s 3000m steeplechase record and then proposed to her longtime partner, Spanish triathlete Bruno Martínez Bargiela.

During the women’s 3000m steeplechase final, four women broke nine minutes for the first time ever, according to The Athletic. With a time of 8:58.67, Finot came in fourth behind medalists Winfred Yavi of Bahrain, Peruth Chemutai of Uganda and Faith Cherotich of Kenya.

After breaking the record with her fellow athletes, Finot barely paused to celebrate the milestone before rushing to the stands to share the moment with Bargiela — and shock the crowd by getting down on one knee. The runner used an Olympic pin instead of a diamond ring. She pinned the accessory to Bargiela’s shirt as they both celebrated, sealing the engagement with a kiss.

While speaking with reporters post-race — and post-proposal — Finot confirmed that Bargiela said “yes,” according to the Daily Mail. Plus, she lifted the curtain on her thought process leading up to the special memory.

“I told myself that if I ran under nine minutes, knowing that nine is my lucky number and that we’ve been together for nine years, then I would propose,” she said.

“I don’t like doing things like everyone else. Since he hadn’t done it yet, I told myself that maybe it was up to me to do it,” she continued, per the outlet. “So, I gave a pin that I ran with to my boyfriend. On it, it says: Love is in Paris.”

Finot also said that Bargiela “always gives me strength” — including during the Tuesday finals. “I really had a blast, I managed to express myself,” she said of the event.

As for her fourth-place finish, she added, “It was just a tiny bit (that was) missing to get a medal, I’m sorry. But I don’t regret anything.”
