Alan Rose is an award-winning meteorologist and an anchor on weekend evenings on News5, and also reports on weather stories during the week. During the fall of 2019, Alan became part of the weather team and had spent a short time in Southern Colorado and he stated that he had already experienced a crash course in Colorado’s wild and extreme weather. One of his most memorable moments was in November of 2019 when he was reporting live from Monument. A measurable amount of snow fell in single-digit temperatures as he brought the audience continuous updates about changing road and weather conditions. Another memorable day was during severe weather season, when a strong line of thunderstorms, recognized as a derecho, blasted through Colorado with damaging wind gusts and large hail.
Before he joined News5, he was a chief meteorologist at KEYT and KKFX in Santa Barbara for more than 14 years.He covered many natural disasters, including raging wildfires, deadly mudslides, and powerful Pacific storms while working in California. In the year 2015, he was awarded the Golden Mike Award from the Radio and Television News Association of Southern California for Best TV Weather Segment. Before working in Santa Barbara, he also worked as a meteorologist at WCBI in Columbus, Mississippi.
He went to college at the University of Alabama. He secured his degree in Communications while competing as a springboard and platform diver. Being a student-athlete, he represented the university on a national stage, and can still do a handstand all these years later. After his graduation, he went ahead to attain his graduate degree in Geosciences from Mississippi State University.
