Ahren Belisle is a mute stand-up comedian and contestant on America’s Got Talent (AGT) 2023. He is also a software engineer and mental health advocate. The Northern Ontario-born comic performs onstage using body language and speech technology to deliver jokes.
Ahren started his comedy career in April 2022. He did his first comedy show in Lisbon, Portugal. On getting started, he said in a previous interview with Cracked: “I just tried it for fun. I always enjoyed the atmosphere of a comedy show. I thought about doing it for a while, but it wasn’t until I got to Portugal and went to a show where the comics all thought I was funny in conversation and encouraged me that I did.”
He has since appeared on America’s Got Talent and Kill Tony, as well as been featured on 60 Second Docs and JRE.

On the June 13 episode of “America’s Got Talent,” nonverbal comedian Ahren Belisle had the audience and judges Simon Cowell, Howie Mandel, Heidi Klum and Sofia Vergara laughing out loud with his unique style of humor.
The 28-year-old engineer with cerebral palsy begins the act by addressing the “elephant in the room”: who ordered Stephen Hawking off of the internet? “He might be smarter than me, but I would beat him in a race … unless the race is downhill, then I’m screwed,” he jokes about the late wheelchair-bound theoretical physicist.
The comedian discusses the “different conditions” he and Hawking share. “He had amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, and I am Canadian. Specifically I’m half-French, on my left side.” He then has the audience roaring when he notes, “I also have a brain muscle disability called cerebral palsy, but being French is way worse than a brain disability.”
After his act, which also includes a jab at a “random white lady” who told him to no longer use the word “handicapped” because it’s “offensive to disabled people,” Ahren receives a rousing standing ovation from the crowd and all four panelists.

Ahren Belisle was born with cerebral palsy (CP), a group of neurological disorders and disabilities that cause some degree of disability in movement, balance, and posture.
On Living with Cerebral Palsy, Ahren told Cracked: “CP kind of made me feel alone and unlovable. It was hard to grow up with. Being mute made it harder because my personality is bigger than my voice. But working on my mental health and learning to find gratitude and joy in life changed everything for me. Now, I have all these stories and these extremely unique life experiences. It’s amazing because I can make so many people feel seen and heard through my comedy. Cerebral palsy has made life harder, but there are so many rewarding things that have come with it for me.”
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), CP is the most common motor disability in childhood. All people with CP have problems with movement and posture. Many also have related conditions such as intellectual disability; seizures; problems with vision, hearing, or speech; changes in the spine; or joint problems.
