Adam Degg Biography – Adam Degg Wiki
Adam Degg is head chef at Horto restaurant in Rudding Park, Harrogate. He is competing in the 2024 series of Great British Menu on BBC Two.
Adam first stepped into a commercial kitchen by chance when, aged 16, he missed the train home from the football. He was near an Italian restaurant owned by his friend’s parents where they allowed him to wash the dishes until they could give him a lift home. From then on, the buzz of the kitchen called.
Adam started his career at a hotel in Birmingham, then moved to London to work at Wild Honey. From there he went to Chiltern Firehouse, before moving to the Hand and Flowers (2*), and was part of the team that received The Coach’s Michelin star in Marlow.
Adam loves to draw inspiration from the Kitchen garden at Horto, which allows him to really be creative with seasonal produce and to embrace the sustainable practices that has awarded him Michelin Green recognition.
A new project that Adam is part of on the estate draws inspiration from the 52 raised oak beds in the garden, which will contain different produce that thrives in each week of the year – giving the restaurant fresh grown produce all year round.

Adam Degg is a contestant on Series 19 of Great British Menu, presented by Andi Oliver. He features as one of four chefs representing the North East and Yorkshire in the regional heats, alongside Samira Effa, Scott John-Hodgson and Cal Byerley. The chefs will be competing to make it through to the Great British Menu Banquet 2024.
Adam announced the news on Instagram, writing: “GREAT BRITISH MENU! Super excited to finally share that I’ve been selected to represent the Northeast & Yorkshire in this year’s competition.
“I’ve been watching this show since it first began, so I’m so proud to be one of the chefs competing in that kitchen!
“This year’s theme is celebrating the Olympics and Paralympics with dishes for a banquet hosted by the British Ambassador in France and Team GB to wish our athletes good luck in Paris.”
With an Olympic and Paralympic theme to this year’s Great British Menu, Adam’s menu celebrates Olympic medals.
