Dimi Jayawardene is a contestant on The Great Australian Bake Off (GABO) 2024. An Early Childhood Teacher, Dimi is a 2018 graduate of BakeClub’s Make Me a Baker Program and a recipient of the “Baker’s Dozen” Award.
Dimi grew up surrounded by cooking and said her parents played a “huge role” in her culinary journey. “My dad is a chef and my mum is a qualified baker, food stylist and cook,” she told the Daily Advertiser, adding a “huge part my bake off journey was for them”.
She also said they have instilled in her attention to detail, creativity, drive, focus and risk-taking, while also maintaining high standards. A particularly favourite experience growing up was a trip to Paris where she did a macaron-making workshop with her mother to celebrate her 30th and her mother’s 50th birthdays.

I feel so incredibly grateful.”
She added: “A huge part of my Bake-Off dream was for them. I just know that if they had this opportunity , they would have absolutely smashed it! Here’s to all the incredible parents out there—past and present.”

I can’t believe the day is finally here to share this wonderful news with you all. I’m a mixed bag of emotions right now. I can’t wait to take you on this Bake Off journey! Strap in—it’s going to be a fabulous ride!!!”
She added: “As always, thank you to each and every one of you. To those who have been on this journey with me, who saw this dream evolve and manifest, your support, positive energy, and belief in me made this possible. I am forever grateful for you.”
Judged by global culinary icon Rachel Khoo and Australia’s King of Pastry, chef Darren Purchese, and hosted by comedians Natalie Tran and the late Cal Wilson, season seven of The Great Australian Bake Off sees 12 diverse amateur baking enthusiasts put through a series of challenges.
Each episode contains three themed baking challenges – Signature, Technical, and Showstopper. At the end of each episode, one contestant is named Star Baker and one is eliminated, until one is ultimately crowned Australia’s Best Amateur Baker.
