Peg Leippi Death

Peg Leippi passed away on Friday, December 17, 2021, less than a week after sustaining serious injuries in a tragic fall. Leippi’s family made the announcement on the restaurant’s Facebook page.

“At 9:38pm on Friday, December 17 heaven gained an angel. It is with deep sadness for us to announce that Peg, our fearless leader, friend, mother and wife passed away last night.

“Mom’s wish was to have her funeral be a really large party. In order to grant those wishes we will be holding off having any service until spring of 2022.

“Our restaurant will be closed on Monday to allow our staff and family some time to process however we will be back open Tuesday (Dec. 21) and business will continue as scheduled.”

On Dec. 11 Leippi suffered serious and life-changing injuries in a tragic fall, which her daughter-in-law Alyssa told the Leader-Post resulted from an attempt to take her own life.

Alyssa had said at the time the family wanted to speak out about mental illness after Leippi’s experience in the hopes of raising awareness and helping others.

“She is so well-known in this community that I really want people to understand how far mental illness can go but also allow the community to help the family heal,” Alyssa said, noting Leippi had struggled with mental health for many years.

“This is really about bringing attention to mental health and how it can affect someone like my mother-in-law. No matter who saw her, she was always the happiest and was always spreading cheer. But everyone can struggle with this.”

Leippi’s injuries included multiple fractures and broken vertebrae in her neck and back, which Alyssa had said would likely cause paralysis from the chest down. Alyssa had also set up a GoFundMe page to support Leippi’s recovery. The GoFundMe campaign had raised more than $63,000 as of Sunday, Dec. 19, 2021.
