Walid Saad is an antique typewriter restorer and a typewriter expert on BBC’s “The Repair Shop.” He is the co-founder of Mr & Mrs Vintage Typewriters, a business involved in the restoration and repair of vintage typewriters, with his wife Joujou Saad.
Walid and Joujou, also known as Mr and Mrs Vintage Typewriters, are the typewriter experts of the award winning series “The Repair Shop”. In 2018, the British-Lebanese couple were invited as typewriter guest experts on BBC’s prestigious and award-winning show “The Repair Shop,” where they filmed the restoration of a Pre-War Corona 3 Typewriter. Now, they are the typewriter experts on “The Repair Shop.”
In July 2018, Walid and Joujou filmed part of an episode of BBC One’s “Money for Nothing” with master upholsterer and TV presenter Jay Blades, who collaborated with them on saving an Underwood 3 Bank Typewriter from being skipped. They have been featured on a podcast on BBC World Service’s “Outlook” with Emily Webb, and in “The Simple Things” magazine.
Since starting in 2016, Walid and Joujou have sold, repaired, and restored at least 4,000 typewriters for British and international editors, journalists, historians, musicians, scriptwriters, producers, scientists, typewriter collectors, and private individuals who wish to own a special typewriter.
Jerry Seinfeld used one of their typewriters for his last Movie, “Unfrosted.” One of their Imperial Good Companion Typewriters was featured in the ABC Murders (Agatha Christie) by Mammoth productions on BBC one. In 2018, they prepared a couple of typewriters for use in “The Crown” Season 3, which began airing in November 2019 on Netflix.
“There’s an amazing surge in the demand for typewriters for young people from age five up to age 18,” Walid told Neptune. “Christmastime is always a busy period for preparing light and smooth typewriters for them.”
