Tyrique Hyde is the son of Micah Hyde, a former professional footballer who played for Watford from 1997 to 2004. Micah had a long and illustrious career in football, playing in the Premier League with the Hornets and representing Jamaica 17 times.

“Without my dad, I wouldn’t be the person or the player I am today, a lot of credit goes to him,”said Tyrique. “He’s achieved some great things in his career and if I can achieve half of that, I’d be happy.”

Micah is currently the manager of Queens Park Rangers Under 18’s.

Love Island contestant Tyrique Hyde is deaf in the right ear. Opening up about his hearing condition, Tyrique said: “I’m deaf in my right ear. I’ve got a tattoo next to my left one that symbolises strength and power in my good one.”

Tyrique is the second deaf contestant on the ITV2 show after Love Island introduced its first ever deaf contestant, Tasha Amber Ghouri. The model and dancer made history on the eighth series of the show in 2022, with the show being praised for its inclusion.

At the time, a spokesperson for the Royal National Institute for Deaf People told Metro UK: “Our charity and supporters are really pleased that another major TV show is featuring a deaf contestant. Representation matters and, as Rose proved on Strictly Come Dancing, this can make a massive difference to the public’s understanding.”
