“I am deeply saddened by today’s tragedy in Texas. All of us at Major League Baseball extend our deepest condolences to Tyler’s wife Carli, their family, their friends and all of his Angels’ teammates and colleagues. According to a toxicology report released by the Tarrant County (Texas) Medical Examiner’s Office on August 30, 2019, Tyler Skaggs’ cause of death was listed as “mixed ethanol, fentanyl and oxycodone intoxication with terminal aspiration of gastric contents. Skaggs had opioids and alcohol in his system and choked to death on his own vomit, according to the autopsy report.
Tyler Skaggs’ family released the following statement on Friday, August 30, 2019, suggesting that an Angels employee may have been involved in the circumstances around his death and that they have hired an attorney.
“We are heartbroken to learn that the passing of our beloved Tyler was the result of a combination of dangerous drugs and alcohol. That is completely out of character for someone who worked so hard to become a Major League baseball player and had a very promising future in the game he loved so much.
“We are grateful for the work of the detectives in the Southlake Police Department and their ongoing investigation into the circumstances surrounding Tyler’s death.
