Tyler Onyango (full name Tyler Jaden Napier Edward Onyango) is an English professional footballer. He plays as a midfielder for the Liverpool-based and Premier League club, Everton. He also plays for the England Under-17 level. Onyango joined Everton when he was eight years old and played his youth career with Everton from 2011 to 2021.
After a spell with the Everton’s Under-18 team, Onyango was subsequently promoted to the Blues’ Under-23 set-up during the 2019/20 campaign. He played in seven Premier League 2 matches before the season was ended early due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
In the 2020/21 season, he played in 17 Premier League 2 matches with Everton’s Under-23, scoring twice, alongside routinely training with the Club’s First Team. His season was cut short after he injured his ankle in an April FA Youth Cup tie with Manchester City. Despite sustaining an ankle injury was Onyango recognized with the Keith Tamlin Award, the award presented to a player for consistently attaining high standards of “excellence, attitude, and application” during his time in the Academy – at the Club’s annual Academy Awards.
In July 2020, he signed his first professional contract, a three-year deal with Everton. He made his senior career debut for Everton on January 24, 2021, aged 17, he came off the bench for the final five minutes of an FA Cup fourth-round 3-0 victory over Sheffield Wednesday at Goodison Park. He described his debut in a post via his Instagram, “A special moment for me making my professional debut at the club I’ve been at since such a young age. Even better to top it off with a win and move into the next round.” Onyango made his Premier League debut in a 3-0 loss against Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium.
