Tony Mabesa born Antonio Mabesa is an actor and director known for Rainbow’s Sunset of 2018, Kristo (1996) and Tukso La Yuan Mo Ako (1991). The veteran actor died on the Friday night of October 4, 2019 after succumbing to illness at the age of 84 years.He is also known as the “Lion of the Theatre”.
He studied BS Agriculture at the University of the Philippines-Los Baños in 1956, Master of Arts in Theater Arts at the University of California-Los Angeles in 1965 and Master of Education at the University of Delaware and finished in 1969.
He is the founding artistic director of Dulaang UP and he staged dozens of productions over the years. He was both a director and an actor with some 170 shows to his name.
He also made a mark in cinema and television. His last role was as recent as 2018, opposite the late Eddie Garcia in “Rainbow’s Sunset,” where they played elderly gay lovers.

Being a stalwart of Philippine theater and whose career had spanned upto 70 years, he passed away on Friday October 4, 2019. He was 84 years old at the time of his death.
According to a family statement shared by Dulaang Unibersidad ng Pilipinas and playwright Floy Quintos;
“We thank you for your prayers. We hope you can respect the family’s wish for privacy at this time,” the statement added.
