Steve Gatterman is a football coach at Lynden Schools and the father of Kailia Posey, best known for her time on the popular TLC television show, Toddlers & Tiaras, the movie ELI on Netflix, and her viral video & popular GIF “Grinning girl”.
Kailia Posey died by suicide on May 2, 2022, at the age of 16. On Tuesday, May 3, 2022, the family of the former Toddlers & Tiaras star issued an official statement regarding her death. The family statement read:
“On May 2, 2022 the life of our sweet Kalia ended tragically. She was just 16 years old but had accomplished so much and had a such a bright future in front of her. Her family and friends are devastated, but in an effort to provide some answers for her many friends and admirers across the country, and to stop additional speculation and intrusion on the family’s request for privacy, we offer the following statement.
“Kailia was perhaps best known for her time on the popular TLC television show, Toddlers & Tiaras, the movie ELI on Netflix, and her viral video & popular GIF “Grinning girl”. She won countless crowns & trophies after competing on the pageant circuit her entire life. Most recently being named 2. Runner•Up Miss Teen Washington. Her highly acclaimed talent as a contortionist had already led to professional touring job offers, and she had recently been selected to be a cheerleader at her high school next fall. A longtime aviation enthusiast, her dream was to continue in the entertainment industry while pursuing her commercial pilot license.
“Although she was an accomplished teenager with a bright future ahead of her, unfortunately in one impetuous moment, she made the rash decision to end her earthly life.
“It is our desire that her departure from this Earth will not be in vain and that other lives can be saved. A fund has been set up at the Whatcom Community Foundation in her name. All contributions will go to providing resources to help students in crisis.”
Originaly from Snohomish, Washington, Steve Gatterman has been a Football Coach at Lynden Schools since 2017. He previously worked as a Collision Reconstructionist at Crashteams Pacific Northwest from 2009 – 2019. Steve studied Math/Physics at New York Institute of Technology. He attended the institution from 2007 to 2009. He also studied at Western Washington University, according to his Facebook page.

Steve Gatterman is married to Marcy Posey Gatterman, a flight attendant. They have been married since 20 February 2021. They announced they were in a relationship in 2019.
