Sophie Newlands Biography – Sophie Newlands Wiki

Sophie Newlands is a specialist painter and a contestant on the BBC’s Interior Design Masters 2026. A bold, vivacious designer, she’s known for her ‘rock & roll maximalism’, layering jewel tones, clashing prints and eclectic antiques. Sophie is the founder and creative director of Shag Interior, an interior design business.

Sophie started her first business, Brimstone, in 2017 at the age of 27. Brimstone was a product-based business designing and making rock & roll-inspired accessories. She worked on the business alongside her full-time job for a couple of years. She made accessories for musicians and actors, including members of Alice Cooper, The Big Push, Lucy Fallon, Kira Mac and Pale Waves.

Sophie went self-employed full-time in the summer of 2019 and started taking part in major fashion pop-ups in London alongside many established brands. After the pandemic hit and her market was wiped out, she moved to London and set up Hell Fire Collective, a business dedicated to championing small brands and giving them a bricks-and-mortar space to sell from.

Originally from Stoke-on-Trent, Sophie lived in London and Los Angeles before settling in Staffordshire with her musician–barber husband, Brad Newlands, and their dog, Duchess. Brad is a member of the classic rock band Bad Touch from Norfolk, England.

Interior Design Masters 2026

Sophie Newlands is a designer on Series 7 of Interior Design Masters with Alan Carr on BBC One and BBC iPlayer. Comedian Alan Carr tasks 10 designers to reimagine eight incredible spaces from beach huts to castle hotels. Head judge Michelle Ogundehin will be joined each week by a roster of guest judges.

Sophie entered Interior Design Masters after starting her small business to show everyone what she can do. She told the BBC: “I have a unique design style that I want to share with the world. The opportunity to get hands-on experience in a competitive environment and get 1-2-1 feedback from some of the most well-respected people in the industry was what I needed to become a better designer, a better business owner and a stronger, more confident person.”

Sophie said viewers can expect “incredible design styles, crazy challenges and a little bit of drama!” She added: “I think our signature styles all differ so much this year, it was amazing to see how the same brief can be interpreted in so many different ways!”
