Sophie de Stempel Biography – Sophie de Stempel Wiki

Sophie de Stempel is the wife of Ian Holm. The couple was married from December 2003 to his death on 19 June 2020. Sophie is an artist. She was a protégée and life model of Lucian Freud.

She studied painting at the City and Guild School of Art. She then worked for Lucian Freud for 8 years. She has exhibited at the Albemarle Gallery with Pippa Houldsworth and also Rebecca Hossack. She has been in mixed shows curated at the Sigmund Freud Museum.

She told the Royal Drawing School about her drawing: “Drawing is a passion for me. I believe many things, ideas, films start by putting pencil to paper. I have always collected drawings and prints; really it is the beginning of understanding how something could be made, the first steps to painting. A bit like the need to see trees in winter, their structure before full bloom, or understanding the inside of a clock.”

He then married his second wife Sophie Baker from 1982 and they divorced in 1986. He married his third wife, actress Penelope Wilton, in 1991 in Wiltshire. They divorced in 2001.

Ian Holm Death

Sir Ian Holm died on June 19, 2020, at the age of 88 from an illness related to Parkinson’s disease.
