Sebastian Munoz is a Colombian professional golfer who plays on the PGA Tour. In September 2019, the golfer won his first PGA Tour tournament at the Sanderson Farms Championship in Jackson, Mississippi. He won on the first playoff hole with Sungjae Im. He became the second Colombian player to win on the PGA TOUR after Camillo Villegas.
Sebastian got his start in golf from his father at the age of 3. He attended San Carlos High School. In high school, he was the No. 1 ranked golfer in Columbia and the 120th ranked golfer in the world. Sebastian won three tournaments in 2010 and was the Colombian Open Amateur champion in 2010. He also won the Canadian International Junior Challenge in 2010 and tied for first place at the South American Amateur Championship. The golfer finished second at the Colombian Masters Amateur in 2009.
He played college golf at the University of North Texas alongside fellow professional golfers, Carlos Ortiz and Rodolfo Cazaubón. In his senior year, he won two tournaments including the Conference USA Championship. Also, as an amateur, he won the prestigious Jim Rivers Intercollegiate Tournament. After an impressive 2018 season on the Web.com Tour, finishing 12th on the money list, Sebastian regained his PGA Tour card. He finished the 2020 season in a career-high 8th place in the FedEx Cup Standings, built upon his victory at Sanderson Farms and strong showings at the The Greenbrier (7), BMW Championship (T8), and Tour Championship (T8). To date, his 2021 season is off to a great start, with impressive showings at the CJ Cup (9), Zozo Championship (T14), and Masters (T19).
On September 22, 2019, Munoz won his first PGA Tour tournament at the Sanderson Farms Championship. The 2015 North Texas graduate held on to force a playoff at the Sanderson Farms Championship with Sungjae Im on the 18th hole with a 14 1/2-foot birdie putt. Im shot a 6-under 66 on the day to hold the clubhouse lead before Munoz’s birdie took him to the clubhouse at 2-under 70 in a playoff. The sudden-death playoff ended after one hole when Munoz holed a par putt after Im had missed his attempt at par. Both Munoz and Im finished the final round at 18-under par before going to the playoff.
