Sacha Feinberg-Mngomezulu is a South African professional rugby union player who plays for the Stormers in the United Rugby Championship (URC), and the Springbok team. The Cape Town-born rugby player made his debut for South Africa against Wales on Saturday, 22 June 2024 in Twickenham.

Sacha developed a love for the sport by playing tag rugby every Friday at school when he was five or six. “I played [rugby] all through school,” he told Rugby World in September. “I was good at football and was in the South African Ajax squad. I played first-team cricket at school too. When I was 15, I focused on rugby. It was more appealing.” He moved into the provincial system at that age, and got his first professional contract in 2020.

Sacha has managed to get selected at every level since the age of 13. He captained the Junior Boks at the 2022 Under-20 Six Nations Summer Series in Italy, where South Africa defeated England, Ireland, France, and Wales to lift the title.

Sacha’s father was born and raised there, growing up around London’s exile community which included some of South Africa’s most renowned politicians.

According to the SABC, Feinberg was a distinguished artist, poet, and author who “played a pivotal role behind the scenes in designing and creating publicity materials for the anti-Apartheid movement.” Daily Maverick credits Feinberg for his revolutionary creation of the early ANC and Umkhonto weSizwe logos, which features a warrior with a shield and spear.

Nick himself worked for the London-based International Defence and Aid Fund, which funded political prisoners in South Africa during the 1980s.

Sacha dedicated his stellar performance in his Springbok debut to his paternal grandfather. He paid tribute to his grandfather in a tweet. “Hope I made you proud, Grandpa,” he posted alongside a link to an article about Barry, who passed away from dementia in December 2023 aged 84.

I won’t stand for antisemitism, and my son is the same. In fact, I fought antisemitism on the streets of London. Half of my mother’s family were wiped out by the Nazis.”
