Robert Bent is a London-based carpenter, upcycler and TV carpenter on the hit BBC One show Sort Your Life Out. He is the Lead Carpenter at REBB Carpentry. He specialises in bespoke, carpentry storage solutions and full-scale home renovations. With a passion for upcycling, Robert loves a challenge and has a keen eye for design; he’s on a mission to make our homes as functional and innovative as possible using his creative vision to transform our most treasured spaces.

It was this enthusiasm and passion that saw him catch the eye of TV producers and in 2021, he joined the onscreen expert team on the BBC’s hugely popular BAFTA-nominated series Sort Your Life Out, hosted by Stacey Solomon.

From as early as he can remember, Robert has loved being hands on whether that be building Lego as a toddler or in his teenage years working at IKEA, building flat pack furniture and actually enjoying it! After helping friends with DIY and flooring jobs, he enrolled on a carpentry and joinery course leaving two years later with a distinction, which then led to an all-important apprenticeship. Having worked for several established companies, Robert eventually took the leap and set up on his own, making a name for himself delivering high quality craftmanship and creating bespoke domestic solutions for his loyal and growing client base.

With over 18 years of experience in the trade, Robert runs his successful carpentry business from his base in London and is often brought in to rectify mistakes and significant issues following the work of rogue builders whose shoddy workmanship has damaged homes and left homeowners out of pocket. He enjoys nothing more than seeing a room or a home completely transformed, and it is his professionalism and perfectionism which has seen him earn a glowing reputation and a waiting list of customers in urgent need of his expertise, according to Siren Talent Management.

He attended Alperton Community School and studied Carpentry and Joinery at the College of NW London, according to his Linkedin profile.

Utilise the most unused spaces in your home, these are often areas that are above head height: by simply adding shelves, or buying low-cost kitchen wall units and customising them to match the style of the room. This will enable you to de-clutter the room by giving you more space to move, as well as additional and attractive storage for a fraction of the price of getting a custom unit made and fitted. Visit online websites where people are selling second hand units cheaply; you can often pick up units that are in great or almost mint condition too. It could also be worth visiting shops and high street retailers who often sell off ex-display items and discontinued stock as this could save you a huge amount of money too.

Upcycling: just because a piece of furniture no longer works in one area of the home doesn’t mean it can’t be used elsewhere. By making a few modifications and adding a lick of paint, you can turn old furniture into a new, modern piece, inconvenience into a necessity, ugly into ‘looks just right’! For example, turning your free-standing TV unit into a hallway seat and storage for shoes, hats, etc offers you the chance to make the space multi-functional, clutter free and creating a piece that is one of a kind and made by you. There’s nothing a good dose of creativity and elbow grease can’t fix and it won’t cost you the earth.
